Rack and pinion kits are the cure for the poor steering characteristics of classic Mustangs. By eliminating most of your old factory steering components, our rack and pinion kits eliminate the play in the steering system. Instead of 4 or 5 turns lock to lock, our kits reduce it to only 3 turns. You will enjoy quicker turning response and more confidence in all types of driving situations.

These are bolt on kits, utilizing existing factory mounting points. Installation is straightforward when following the detailed instructions. Every component is manufactured from the highest quality materials available. Our racks will clear most aftermarket headers. Racks are available for both small block and big block engines.
Although a stock 1965 through 1970 power steering pump will work with our power rack and pinion set up, we do not recommend their use. We recommend, and include as part of our kit, the KRC power steering pump kit. The KRC pump allows you to change flow control valve fittings to adjust the volume of fluid sent to the rack. This enables you to adjust the sensitivity at the wheel. Power steering with a manual feel or power steering that is almost effortless, the KRC pump suits everyone’s needs. Our kits include the KRC V-belt pump kit. The KRC S-belt pump kit is available upon request.
Our kits assume that you are using your stock Mustang steering column. If you are using a Flaming River or IDITIT steering column, please inform K.A.R. when ordering and we will include a correct adapter kit at no additional cost.
WE INSTALL POWER RACK AND PINION KITS!
K.A.R. Auto Group’s Restoration and Repair Center installs power rack and pinion kits. We test drive every Mustang that we install a kit on. You receive a turnkey installation. The installation cost includes a professional front end alignment. We will typically set your kit at a mid-level point between manual steering and effortless power steering. If you are present at K.A.R. when your car is completed, we can adjust the steering feel to suit you.
