Mustang Restoration   Mustang Restoration

Many Mustang enthusiasts think of K.A.R. Auto Group only as America's largest classic Mustang dealer. In addition to Mustang sales K.A.R. Auto Group has been servicing, repairing, and restoring classic Ford Mustangs for 23 years. Two decades of experience dealing solely with the classic Mustang. Kevin Allen Roberts (K.A.R.) has led our service, repair, and restoration for all of those 23 years.

This section of our website will take you through a recent restoration of a 1965 K-code convertible for Steven Phalen of the Chicago area. This was quite a rusty Mustang to begin with. Given the rarity of a 1965 K-code convertible coupled with this car's matching numbers drive train and ideal red exterior and black interior color combination made this Mustang worthy of a full restoration.

SUMMARY
K.A.R. Auto Group does far more than just sell classic Mustangs. We are unique in that we do everything a Ford dealer could do in the 1960's:
  • Mustang car sales
  • Mustang parts sales - includes new, used, and reproduction parts
  • State-of-the-art service, repair, and restoration facility
  • Experienced technicians dedicated to the philosophy that "perfect is good enough."
The restoration of Steve Phalen's K-code convertible included the following:
  • All American made sheet metal
  • N.O.S. Ford quarter panels
  • New Ford front fenders
  • New Ford hood
  • Original Ford doors
  • Original Ford deck lid
  • N.O.S. Ford emblems
  • New Ford bumpers
  • Matching numbers engine and 4-speed transmission both rebuilt to original specifications
This is an American made car restored in America by experienced American technicians.

TIME FRAME
This was a one year restoration from start to finish. The project was completed three (3) weeks later than planned, but "exactly" on budget with no cost overruns from the initial restoration estimate we prepared. The Mustang is driven regularly in the Chicago area although Steve reports that he might take it to his summer home in Michigan.

APPRECIATION
Thanks to Steve Phalen for providing K.A.R. Auto Group with the opportunity to build the Mustang of your dreams. Thanks also for your permission to use the pictures of your restoration on our web site.
