K.A.R. restored a 1970 Mach1 for an avid Mustang enthusiast from Indiana. The Mach1 was completely gutted to include the complete drive train. Once we had a rolling bare shell we had the structure sand blasted to uncover any weak areas that hand stripping might not have revealed. Initial repairs were as follows:
- Repairs to LH and RH floors
- Repairs to LH and RH doors
- Repaired minor hood crack
- Repaired left front frame rail
- Repairs to top of LH and RH trunk floors
- Repair to rear crossmember
- Repairs to LH and RH lower rear quarter panels
- Replaced a previous quarter panel patch
Sand blasting was a valuable aid to this project. All things considered this was an unusually solid Classic Mustang Mach1. Great care was taken when performing the repairs to insure that they were undetectable. Once the repairs were completed the structure was seam sealed and then primed with a high grade epoxy primer. It was now ready for the paint shop.
The mach1 uni-body was painted with the fenders, hood, doors, deck lid, and all other removable parts physically removed from the car. The Mach1 was returned to K.A.R. and ready for final assembly.
The project photo gallery begins by showing the black structure as it returned as a rolling assembly.
