One of our goals at K.A.R. Auto Group, Inc. is to do our very best to insure that the classic Mustang you purchase from K.A.R. is in mechanically sound condition. No one can ever guarantee that 1964-1/2 through 1973 classic Mustangs that are 28+ years old will stay completely trouble free. We can, however, put the odds in your favor for trouble free operation. Of course, routine scheduled maintenance is very important to the well being of any car, classic or current models.
Over our many years of operation we have established a 100+ points Pre-Delivery Inspection Checklist. One of our experienced technicians carefully and thoroughly completes this checklist, correcting any and all deficiencies found, for every classic Mustang sold in Category 1 condition. The buyer receives a signed copy of this completed check list.
Classic Mustangs sold in Category II condition, unrestored original classic Mustangs, and classic Mustang project cars do not receive the 100+ points check. These Mustangs are sold in "As is, Where Is" condition.
Checklist Cost
Over the years we have tracked the cost to complete this checklist and correct all deficiencies found. This cost averages between $1,500 minimum and $2,500 maximum in parts and labor -- per car. We purchase 99% of our classic Mustangs from individual owners. If you purchases a classic Mustang from an individual owner, and want it to be in the same operating condition as a K.A.R. classic Mustang, then it is logical to assume that the completion of our checklist on your Mustang will result in similar costs.
We believe we are unique in the classic Mustang arena with our 100+ points Pre-Delivery Inspection Checklist on all Category1 Mustangs. We know of no other classic Mustang dealer who performs such extensive tests and provides the buyer with a signed copy of the checklist. We want K.A.R. classic Mustang buyers to drive their Mustangs with a feeling of confidence.
Want to save money? -- Eliminate the Pre-Delivery Inspection Checklist!
Since we typically do not perform the Pre-Delivery Inspection Checklist until after the classic Mustang is sold, a buyer can opt to eliminate the Pre-Delivery Inspection Checklist. Why eliminate the Pre-Delivery Checklist?
- You have mechanical skills and can perform the checks.
- You want your personal mechanic(s) to perform the checks.
- You want to store the Mustang short term and invest the checklist dollars later.
- You are putting the Mustang into a collection with no intent to drive it.
Note: K.A.R. suggest that any Mustang not receiving the Pre-Delivery Inspection Checklist be trailered home and not driven until the checklist can be completed.
Mustangs that can have the Pre-Delivery Inspection Checklist eliminated are as follows:
- All Mustangs listed for sale in Category 1 condition only.
- All Mustangs listed for sale in Category 2 condition where "perform 100+ points Pre-Delivery Inspection Checklist" is specifically listed under enhancements to be performed. Eliminate this checklist from the Category 1 enhanced condition and K.A.R. will reduce the Category 1 price.
Eliminating the Pre-Delivery Checklist from any classic Mustang where it has been factored into the final price and K.A.R. will reduce the price of the classic Mustang by $1,500.
Feel free to print out our Pre-Delivery Checklist (click here). We at K.A.R. fully realize that we cannot locate and stock the perfect classic Mustang for everyone seeking the Mustang of their choice. We, therefore, know that many Mustang enthusiasts will purchase their classic Mustang from another dealer or an individual. Should this be your case we suggest you do one of the following:
- Request that the selling dealer complete the checklist and provide you with a signed copy.
- Request that the individual selling you their classic Mustang have the checklist completed by a reputable repair facility and provide you with a signed copy.
- Factor the "absence" of this signed checklist into the price you offer. In this case we suggest that you have this checklist completed by a reputable repair facility immediately upon taking delivery of your classic Mustang.
REMEMBER, these are old cars. Proper pre-delivery examination is critical to carefree enjoyment of your classic Mustang. Many items on the checklist are safety related. The benefits of these checks should be obvious.
